Which mailing type to choose

What Are Mailings in Altcraft

To put it simply, mailings are a tool to manage message sending. They help you configure:
  • what message you will send
  • how often you will send it
  • which channel will be used (email, SMS, push, etc.)
  • who exactly the message is intended for

Several types of mailings are available in Altcraft Platform:

  • Broadcast
  • Regular
  • Trigger
  • Multivariate testing
  • Placement

Let’s briefly look at what they are and how they differ.

Mailing Types

1. Broadcast

Broadcast mailing is useful when you need to send a message to a specific audience of subscribers only once. The mailing ends after the broadcast sends one message to each recipient.
What is it suitable for?
  • Notifications about important updates, such as a new product or feature, a price change, or an update to the privacy policy
  • Blog digests
  • News about sales and promotions, such as a New Year sale or Black Friday

2. Regular

Regular mailing sends messages to a selected audience of subscribers on a schedule. You can configure the schedule down to hours and minutes, as well as specific days of the week and months.

On day X, the mailing starts and sends one message to each subscriber. Then it waits for the next day X and starts the mailing again. Messages will continue to be sent according to the schedule until you manually stop the mailing.

What is it suitable for?
  • Birthday greetings
  • Service expiration reminders
  • Reactivating inactive customers
  • Weekly newsletters about newly published blog articles
  • Product selections

3. Trigger

A trigger mailing sends a message to a subscriber when the required condition is met. This may be an event inside the platform or a user action on a website or in an app:
  • importing a customer profile into a database
  • adding a subscription to a resource
  • an API request
  • clicking a link in an email
  • visiting a website
  • submitting a form, and so on
What is it suitable for?
  • A welcome email after registration on a website
  • A thank-you message after a purchase
  • A request to leave a review
  • An abandoned cart reminder

4. Multivariate Testing

A multivariate testing (MVT testing, or A/B/n test) can be used to evaluate the marketing effectiveness of messages.

The idea is as follows: several message templates are added to a mailing. Up to 8 templates can be tested simultaneously. Next, they are sent to a small part of the audience. The templates are inserted into emails randomly, and subscribers receive different emails.

The platform selects the most effective template based on the number of opened messages or clicks on links within them.

What is it suitable for?
  • Testing the effectiveness of a CTA button
  • Finding the optimal ratio of images to text in an email
  • Choosing the subject line that gets the strongest response from recipients

5. Placement

With placements, you can publish content for subscribers on a specific resource. They are launched either on a schedule (when the mailing sends content to all subscribers from the selected data source) or by event (when the mailing sends content to a specific lead after the lead performs the required action or when a specified event occurs for that lead).

If the channel supports placement cancellation, the published content can later be removed from the resource manually or automatically at the specified date and time.

What is it suitable for?
  • Placing a banner in a user’s personal account
  • Placing a banner on a website
  • Placing a banner in a mobile app
